Associate University Counsel for Health Affairs and Deputy Director, Contracts Unit
John Clontz advises the University’s staff on contracts and other transactional and business matters, including: medical services agreements, vendor contracts, office space leases, data sharing agreements, HIPAA/business associate agreements, and resident rotation agreements. John also provides orientation training to new managers.
Prior to joining the University of Florida, Office of General Counsel in June 2017, John practiced healthcare and commercial law at the Getty Law Group, PLLC, Lexington, Kentucky. John’s previous 13 years of legal work focused on federal and state healthcare regulatory issues, physician reimbursement, and mergers and acquisitions. John served as the Chief Operating Officer and In-house Counsel at a regional healthcare company until December 2015. Previously, John served as General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Compliance Officer for a multi-state medical company providing geriatric care to patients in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. John started his legal career in 1982 as a partner in the litigation law firm of Clontz & Cox, LLC, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. John practiced personal injury law and represented community banks (serving on the Board of Directors at one of the institutions), insurance companies, a school board and a weekly newspaper. John received his B.A. in Economics from Centre College, Danville, Kentucky and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
