Brande S. Smith
Senior Assistant University Counsel
Brande S. Smith advises and represents the University on a variety of legal matters including, federal and state regulation, policies and procedures, risk management, campus safety and security, contract procurement, public records, litigation and other dispute resolution. She works closely with clients in the areas of student affairs, registrar, law enforcement and various academic and administrative departments. In addition, Brande serves as the Law Student Extern Supervisor for the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel.
Brande started her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Office of the State Attorney, Eighth Judicial Circuit where she litigated hundreds of criminal cases on behalf of the people of the state of Florida. In addition to her work as an Assistant State Attorney, Brande served as the Intern Supervisor for the Office of the State Attorney, Eighth Judicial Circuit where she provided supervision, guidance and mentoring to law school student interns.
Brande received both her Juris Doctor with Honors and her Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Florida. As a member of the University of Florida College of Law Trial Competition Team, Brande and her teammates were named Regional Winners of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, 2000 National Student Trial Advocacy Competition.
